NATIONAL PARK PLITVICE LAKES
National Park Plitvice Lakes was founded in 1949. It is stretching on area of 29 685 hectares. It is consisted of 19 settlements. National Park Plitvice Lakes is located in Lika-Senj district and Karlovac district. It is located around 140 km far from Zagreb and around 219 km far from Split.
Working hours of National Park Plitvice Lakes:
- Winter: 9am - 4pm
- Spring and autumn: 8am - 6pm
- Summer: 7am - 8pm
National Park Plitvice Lakes is one of the most known and most visited National Parks in Croatia (around 860 000 visitors a year). National Park Plitvice Lakes is consisted of carbonate geological ground, karstic terrains, rare surface flows... It also has many caves, wells, fields, limestone peaks...
National Park Plitvice Lakes is consisted of Upper and Lower Lakes. Upper Lakes are: Proscansko Lake, Ciginovac, Okrugljak, Batinovac, Large Lake, Small Lake, Vir, Galovac, Milino Lake, Gradinsko Lake, Burgeti and Kozjak, which is the largest lake. Lower Lakes are: Milanovac, Gavanovac, Kaluderovac and Novakovica Brod.
Largest waterfall in National Park Plitvice Lakes and in Croatia is Great Fall, falling from 78 m high cliff.
On area of National Park Plitvice Lakes have been recorded 1267 plant species. 22 species have been declared as protected species, such as most beautiful orchid in Europe called Cypripedium calceolus. Plitvice Lakes were connected with Karlovac with a road. Around 60`s of 20th century, wooden paths and bridges were built on lakes of National Park Plitvice Lakes.
